You have a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the fight against climate change.
What Is Climate Advocacy?
Advocacy means using your voice and actions to bring about positive change. It's about speaking up for our environment and inspiring others to join you. As Fridays for Future shows, even one determined voice—like Greta Thunberg’s—can spark a global movement.
How to Start Your Advocacy Journey
Embarking on your advocacy journey involves strategic planning. Here’s how to begin, inspired by the Environmental Defense Fund:
Identify Your Passion: Determine which aspects of climate change resonate most with you, whether it's renewable energy, wildlife conservation, or environmental justice. For me, it all started with show about orangutans and their diminishing habitats! I became fascinated with the role of palm oil and deforestation.
Understand Your Audience: Consider who you aim to influence—local leaders, peers, or policymakers—and tailor your message accordingly. The message should appeal to the their values, goals, and needs.
Develop a Plan: Set clear goals and outline the steps to achieve them, such as organizing a community event or starting an awareness campaign. After your goals are established, jot down tactics to achieve each one.
Be Authentic: Share your personal experiences and genuine concerns to connect with others and inspire action.
