Our Story
Hi, my name is Meredith Habstritt, and I am the founder of Our World With Meredith. As a child growing up in Minnesota, I loved swimming in lakes, building snowmen in the winter, going for bike rides, and playing pirates with my sister in our backyard. Although these moments weren’t monumental in any way, they cultivated my passion for protecting our world.
As an eight-year-old, I learned about deforestation due to palm oil consumption in a documentary (what an interesting thing for an eight-year-old to be interested in)! At the time, I didn’t know why I cared so much, but I did know that I had to do something. So, my advocacy work began! I spoke at Target headquarters, corresponded with General Mills, and posted to my old Facebook page, Meredith Save’s Orangutans. However, as I grew older, I became less active in my quest to take Orangutans off the endangered species list specifically, and more holistic in my approach to help the environment as a whole.
One experience that drove this shift in my mission was a three week hiking, kayaking, and backpacking trip through Alaska. I experienced unforgettable moments like kayaking over a whale and seeing a bear. Being surrounded by beautiful nature every day helped me fall in love with our world in an even bigger way than before.
That’s when Our World With Meredith was established. I took my advocacy work to a whole new level by expanding my former organization to incorporate more topics that I care about. Every Wednesday I post to my video series, “Our World Wednesday”, speaking out on a wide range of environmental issues, with the goal of connecting people to our environment, educating people about issues, and teaching them how to preserve and enjoy our world. Knowing the power of collaboration, I have hosted several meetings with my state lawmakers, and I have interviewed a commercial kitchen about their sustainable practices. Looking to the future, I am hoping to continue this advocacy work and connect with local businesses and influential policy drivers. I also am working on a children's book that inspires the younger generation to love our world, and in turn, take care of it.
Over the past four years, the process of synthesizing information for my Our World with Meredith videos, interviewing professionals, and meeting politicians has shown me the value of breaking down the complex issue of climate change into digestible and concrete solutions. I also discovered the relationship between environmental justice, pollutants, and neurodegeneration, which I plan to make the focus of my career.
Each day is a beautiful day to go enjoy our world, so start by taking a step outside with me.
